Cradle to Cradle Festival – Blueprint Netherlands 26th of January – 16th of March 2011 Aedes Architekturforum am Pfefferberg, Berlin, Germany
From the 26th of January to the 16th of March, 2011 we celebrated the first Cradle to Cradle®-Festival in Berlin. Approximately 80 companies and regions, that work and seek to optimize themselves, their products, or their city planning according to the Cradle to Cradle® principles, took part. All participated in the exhibition and the extensive festival program, which included presentations, panel discussions, workshops and even a fashion show. Approximately 6,000 people during the course of 80 events were inspired by the festival. The festival was dedicated to the Dutch firms who have shown themselves to be especially receptive to the Cradle to Cradle® design concept.
We would like to thank all of those who took part in the festival. Additionally, we are extremely happy that we had so many visitors, visitors who took the opportunity to enrich the festival through their presence, discussion contributions, and questions. The interactions were for us, as well, inspiring and provoked numerous new ideas. That mankind can place numerous beautiful, multifaceted and good products, buildings, and regions on our earth without having to forgo anything was demonstrated by the exhibitors from varied branches and the multifaceted products and services they exhibited.

The Aedes Architecture Forum and Network Campus in Berlin is an internationally renowned architecture and culture network. Aedes has affected thousands of people over the last 30 years with 400 exhibitions and forums on several relevant societal topics. The co-founders of the Aedes, Dr. Kristin Feireiss and Hans-Jürgen Commerell, want to introduce a new generation of exhibitions.
Therefore the Cradle to Cradle®-Festival is going to be a new, innovative event format which combines an economic fair and congress with cultural and artistic contributions. This format offers the opportunity of innovative presentation possibilities to inspire visitors who are interested in Culture, Economy and Innovation.

Stef Kranendijk, CEO of Desso, a Dutch carpet and artificial turf producer, will be visiting the Festival in Berlin and present Desso's approach towards Cradle to Cradle®, their achievements and the challenges they are currently facing.
Until 2020 Desso wants to adapt its entire production line according to the Cradle to Cradle concept and is one of the first Cradle to Cradle companies.

According to Jürgen Resch from Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance of companies is often not as intense and honest as they pretend to be. Only a few positive and motivating examples like the companies of Otto Versand and Memo office supplier can be mentioned.
The global initiative Bimbache openART from the Canary Island "El Hierro" presents an extensive cultural and spiritural program together with information on the island's ambitions towards the use of sustainable energy and other interesting information about the island.
The Festival presents the architecture project of Park 20|20, the first full service Cradle to Cradle® inspired business park in Hoofddorp, The Netherlands.
From 17 to 19h Klaus Zahn, one of the first architects working with the Cradle to Cradle-principles is speaking about the possibilities in Germany and how we can integrate this revolutionary concept in design, architecture and city planning.
The architect and co-founder of the Cradle to Cradle®-concept William McDonough will visit the Festival in Berlin on Wednesday, March 9th. At 19:00h he will be giving a speech with the title of "More than green: What is the added value of Cradle to Cradle in architecture and urban planning".
Jakob von Uexküll (Founder of the Alternative Nobel Prize and World Future Council) will visit the Cradle to Cradle-Festival on 3rd of March for a discussion with Monika Griefahn.
The President of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero, visited the Festival on February 17th, following an invitation of the retired Minister of the Environment Monika Griefahn.
The CEO of Backhausen interior textiles, Reinhard Backhausen, visited the Festival in Berlin on Feb 16th to present and discuss about his experiences, his motivation and the learning process connected to the Cradle to Cradle®-concept.
The UniversityDays on the topic of Cradle to Cradle® & Education on February 12th & 13th were very successful. A lot of students, teachers and lecturers visited the festival and build up a european network on Cradle to Cradle® in educational institutions.

As the world's first cosmetics company ADEDA receives the Cradle to Cradle® certificate. They say that this is a milestone of sustainability for their company.
At the beginning of 2008 Desso adopted the Cradle to Cradle® philosophy. The company was the first carpet producer who implemented the Cradle to Cradle® principles in their company guidelines. Desso's Cradle to Cradle® products are made of positive defined ingredients. They are designed to be easily dissassambled, therefore the ingredients can be easily seperated from each other and become ingredients for new products again. The German environmental chemnist developed the Cradle to Cradle® design together with his his friend and partner the American architect William McDonough.
Stef Kranendijk, Geschäftsführer von Desso, einem niederländischen Teppich- und Kunstrasenhersteller, besucht das Festival in Berlin und präsentiert Dessos Cradle to Cradle®-Ansatz, ihre Erfolge sowie die Herausforderungen, denen sie sich derzeit gegenüber sehen.
Bis zum Jahre 2020 strebt Desso an, die gesamte Produktion auf Cradle to Cradle® umzustellen und ist eine der ersten Cradle to Cradle® Firmen.
Bei einer brillianten Modenschau wurden die ersten Modekollektionen aus Cradle to Cradle® -optimierten Stoffen der Firmen Backhausen und Trigema für Kinder und Erwachsene präsentiert, geschaffen von jungen Designern aus Schweden und Deutschland:

Einer Einladung zum Cradle to Cradle® Festival folgend sprach der Bundesgeschäftsführer der Deutschen Umwelthilfe (DUH) Jürgen Resch zum Thema Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) der Unternehmen. Seiner Aussage nach versteckt sich bei vielen Unternehmen hinter den CSR-Kampagnen und -Auftritten meist nur sehr wenig an effektiven Handlungen. Nur einíge Unternehmen wie der Otto Versand und Memo Büromaterialen-Versand können positiv hervorgehoben werden.
Die globale Initiative Bimbache openART von der kanarischen Insel "El Hierro" gestaltet ein zweitägiges abwechslungsreiches kuturelles und spirutuelles Programm beim Festival in Berlin und bietet ein All-Star Konzert mit namenhaften Musikern sowie Informationen zur Ambition der Insel, als erste Insel der Welt ihre gesamte Energie aus erneuerbaren Quellen zu beziehen.
Das Festival präsentiert das Architekturprojekt Park 20|20, der erste Businesspark in Hoofddorp, Niederlande, der komplett von der Cradle to Cradle®-Idee inspiriert ist.
Von 17 bis 19Uhr spricht Klaus Zahn, einer der ersten Architekten, der hierzulande nach dem Cradle to Cradle-Prinzip arbeitet, über die Möglichkeiten in Deutschland und wie man das revolutionäre Konzept in Design, Architektur und Stadtplanung übertragen kann.
Der US-Achitekt und Co-Erfinder des Cradle to Cradle®-Konzeptes William McDonough besucht das Festival in Berlin am Mittwoch, den 09. März. Um 19:00 Uhr ist ein Vortrag mit dem Titel "More than green: What is the added value of Cradle to Cradle in architecture and urban planning" geplant.
Eine Pressekonferenz findet bereits um 15:30 Uht statt.

Der Ministerpräsident der kanarischen Inseln Paulino Rivero besuchte am 17. Februar auf Einladung der niedersächsischen Umweltministerin a.D. Monika Griefahn die Ausstellung des Cradle to Cradle® -Festivals für die Pioniere des alternativen Nachhaltigkeitsprinzips in Berlin.
Der Geschäftsführer von Backhausen interior textiles, Reinhard Backhausen, besuchte am 16. Februar das Festival in Berlin, um über seine Erfahrungen, seine Motivation und dem Lernprozess zusammen mit Cradle to Cradle® zu berichten.
Die UniversitätsTage zum Thema Cradle to Cradle® & Education am 12. & 13. Februar waren sehr erfolgreich. Viele Studenten, Schüler, Lehrer und Dozenten besuchten das Festival zum allgemeinen Erfahrungsaustausch und zum Aufbau eines europäischen Netzwerkes für Cradle to Cradle® in Bildungseinrichtungen.

Als weltweit erstes Kosmetikunternehmen erhält AVEDA die Cradle to Cradle®-Zertifizierung. AVEDA selbst sagt, dass dies ein Meilenstein im Nachhaltigkeitsbereich der 31-jährigen Frimengeschichte ist.
Anfang 2008 übernahm DESSO die Cradle to Cradle® Philosophie. Das Unternehmen war der erste Teppichhersteller, der den Cradle to Cradle® Gedanken in seine Firmenrichtlinien übernahm. Die Cradle to Cradle® Produkte von DESSO werden aus als positiv definierten Komponenten hergestellt und sind so konzipiert, dass sie leicht zu trennen und später zu neuen Erzeugnissen weiter verarbeitet werden können.
